Long Overdue BC whitewater update

Having finally met up with the UK guys in Squamish, we headed to Whistler. Levels were running pretty high still. We warmed up on a quick run down the class 4 Upper Cheakamus.

BC class 4 is pretty high standard compared with UK or other US runs...... Still a fun run was had. Unfortunately this was one of the easiest creeking runs around, so we decided to head elsewhere whilst levels dropped.

We decided to head to the Kootenays, which was about 6 hrs drive away. When we got there, levels were LOW!!! We found a guidebook, and managed to knock off a few of the classic runs....

We paddled the Middle and Lower Pingston, the Upper and lower Kuskanax, the Carpenter, and the Cayuse. Our tolerance for low water finally hit its limit at the Cayuse, and we canyoned this one. Don't know how people manage to boat this!! We stayed with a friend of Marc, Trevor, who hosted us for a night at their delightful house. If only we could have stayed for the Pig roast.

After these runs we scooted back to Whilster and paddle the classic Birkenhead and Callahan runs, which reminded us what it was like to paddle on water, rather than rocks...... Great high levels on amazing quality runs..
